World AIDS Day

On 1 December each year, World AIDS Day is recognized. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show support for people living with HIV, and honor those who have died from an AIDS-related illness.

World AIDS Day was founded in 1988 and was the first ever global health day. It is a day of awareness to reduce the stigma surrounding HIV and those living with it.


Facts about HIV & AIDS:

  • The red ribbon is the symbol of AIDS/HIV and wearing this ribbon shows support for those living with HIV.

  • About 38.4 million people globally were living with HIV in 2021. (UN AIDS)

  • About 40.1 million people have died from AIDS-related illnesses since the start of the epidemic. (UN AIDS)
